Earwigs
-
Despite their appearance, earwigs are generally harmless. They have pincers at the end of their abdomen used for defense and courtship. Male pincers are rounded, and female pincers are straight.
-
Earwigs nest outdoors in dark, shaded areas, with high levels of moisture and decaying organic matter. They wander inside to escape extreme heat, or extreme cold weather. Sometimes they accidentally enter a home when they are hanging out under boxes, or other outdoor items that get brought inside.
-
One of the most common instances we see earwigs in someone’s yard, is due to yard debris. If they is excessive leaf litter, towels, or anything else laying over the ground, it provides a damp, moist environment that earwigs love. We always recommend picking up unnecessary items and storage throughout your yard. Aside from that, checking for areas of high, recurring moisture. This could be a leaking sprinkler or drip line, faulty grading, or over watering.

We will inspect, look for areas with a high level of moisture retention, and target them. We make sure to granulate the lawns to prevent future infestations, and notify you of any conducive areas that need your attention.
