American Roaches
-
American Roaches are the largest species of common cockroaches. In Southern California, they are usually seen in the evening scurrying around the sidewalk and up driveways. They are 1 ½ inch or longer, reddish brown, and can fly.
-
American Roaches nest in areas with excess moisture and easy access to decaying organic matter. They are commonly found inside utility boxes, inside the sewer systems in our cities, and in any dark damp area that mimics those environments.
-
If you are noticing them outside, check for any leaf debris that can be picked up, or any other c=decaying matter that could provide food sources. If you are confident your yard is in great shape, and there are no areas of concern in your yard, we recommend calling your city to have them service the sewers. We’ve seen cities jump right on it and get it done for their residents, and other cities take months.
If the roaches are found inside your home, it is likely due to a sink, shower stall, or bathtub not being used frequently. This will provide American Roaches a pathway into your home from the sewer system.
-
American Roaches are fairly easy to control. We always inspect for the reason they are there in the first place. We utilize baits, dusts, and long lasting pyrethroids to control American Roach populations around your home.
